Cambridge Digital Humanities is pleased to invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on the AI Forensics research project. The position is full time for 12 months and will be based at Cambridge Digital Humanities in central Cambridge. Flexible and remote working patterns (within the UK) will be considered.The role holder will undertake research in the “AI Forensics” research project, financed by the Volkswagen Foundation. The aim of the project is to identify, analyse, and mitigate cultural biases within AI-powered computer vision systems by employing methodologies from the digital humanities, digital art history, and digital visual studies. The post will be based at Cambridge Digital Humanities, working with Dr Leonardo Impett’s group. It will involve significant international collaboration, including with other project partners at the Ca Foscari University Venice (Matteo Pasquinelli) University of California Santa Barbara (Fabian Offert), Durham University (Noura Al Moubayed), and University of Kassel (Claude Draude).The main activity of the role will be the development and implementation of an image dataset analysis tool tailored to the project’s objectives, enabling comprehensive investigation and interpretation of AI image datasets with a focus on their cultural implications and biases. The role holder will be fully involved in the project’s research and will contribute to the project’s published outputs.

The successful candidate will have a strong academic record and hold a PhD in a relevant subject, for example in digital humanities, cultural analytics, digital art history, computer vision, AI ethics or critical approaches to AI.
