Zheng Liu is interested in exploring the relationship between censorship, creative language encoding, and misinformation on social media and the ways in which ethnographies and ethnographic representations can be digitally reshaped. Undergraduate training in anthropology provides Zheng Liu with a critical lens for understanding how digital technologies are situated within gendered, racialised, and politicised milieus. Through his research, Zheng Liu seeks to investigate how natural language processing models and sentiment analysis can be applied to decode political opinions and emotions transmitted through creatively encoded messages on social media.
