Description

The contemporary media are increasingly shaped by Machine Learning systems: from the recommender systems which present ‘personalised’ options for viewing films or listening to music, to the algorithms that define our experience of social media platforms, to the search engines we use to answer questions and discover information, these applications of machine learning are now part of everyday life for billions of people. This public online workshop, which is held alongside the application-only CDH Social Data School, will provide a chance for participants to get inside the ‘black box’ of Machine Learning systems and learn more about the choices confronting their designers. By investigating specific applications of machine learning, the participants will also explore the social and political consequences of using ML-based solutions in the media, advertising and entertainment system.
