Description

This workshop will show how the Transkribus transcription platform can be used to perform the automated transcription and searching of handwritten and printed documents.
The workshop will be delivered by Louise Seaward (University College London) and Roger Labahn (University of Rostock).  It will start with a presentation explaining the functionalities of Transkribus and the technology behind it.  The workshop leaders will then demonstrate how Transkribus can be used for Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) for handwritten documents and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) for printed texts.  Workshop participants will use their own laptops to experiment with Transkribus during the session.
A seminar exploring the technology behind Transkribus in more detail will be held on 27 March, 11-1pm. Please book separately for this session online here
Please note, this workshop is open to graduate students and staff at the University of Cambridge and is part of the Machine Reading the Archive digital methods programme (http://www.digitalhumanities.cam.ac.uk/Methods/mtra)
